Company history: Fredrik Jebe & Co.

Fredrik Jebe & Co. A/S, a former tobacco factory, established in 1865. It was originally called Fredrik Jebe & Co. Cigar- og Cigaretfabrik; this is said to have been the first time the terms cigar and cigarette appeared in Norway. The factory was founded in Karl Johans gate. Fredrik Jebe was then a 26-year-old businessman from Kongsvinger. Like several other tobacco factories in the city, it eventually moved to the area around Bislett, and Jebe took over an entire apartment building at Welhavens gate 9 ("Jebegården") with a factory, warehouse and offices. Jebe produced cigarettes such as Wedel and imported, among other things, the well-known brand Craven "A", smoking tobacco and pipes, and had its own pipe factory in Lillehammer. It became a limited company in 1924. From 1929, the company also had its own information newspaper, "Jebe-nytt", which was distributed to almost all the country's tobacco shops and contained articles about the company's buildings, tobacconists and traveling salesmen.

For Jebe, the collaboration and agency agreement with the international Philip Morris group, which involved importing the successful Marlboro brand, was of crucial importance. In 1972, a collaboration was entered into with Conrad Langaard AS, who later bought the company and thus received the agency for cigarettes from the Philip Morris group, including Marlboro, which was produced under license at the factory in Pilestredet.
